CONJUNCTIONS – INTERMEDIATE LEVEL
(61 WORD TO PRACTICE)
About the Topic: Conjunctions
Conjunctions are important words that connect other words, phrases, or sentences. They help us make our speech and writing clearer and more natural. Without conjunctions, our sentences would be short and simple, but not smooth.
There are three main types of conjunctions:
Coordinating conjunctions – These connect words or phrases of equal importance. Examples: and, but, or, so, yet, for, nor.
Example: I like coffee and tea.
Subordinating conjunctions – These connect a main clause and a dependent clause. Examples: because, although, if, when, while, since, before, after.
Example: I stayed home because it was raining.
Correlative conjunctions – These work in pairs. Examples: both…and, either…or, neither…nor, not only…but also.
Example: She is both smart and kind.
Learning conjunctions helps students speak and write more complex sentences, express reasons, contrasts, and choices, and sound more fluent in English.

Express reasons, contrasts, and time relations between actions.
Use conjunctions to write longer, more natural sentences.
Improve grammar accuracy and fluency through fun practice games.
Benefits of the BoomWords Game
The BoomWords Game is a fun and dynamic way to learn conjunctions. The teacher says “Conjunctions,” and students take turns saying a conjunction — and, but, because, although, etc. When a student repeats a word or hesitates too long, they must say “Boom!” and sit down.
This game helps learners:
Remember conjunctions quickly.
Use them confidently in real situations.
Improve grammar and sentence-building skills.
Enjoy learning through fast thinking and teamwork.
Teachers can make the game more advanced by asking students to use conjunctions in full sentences:
I like apples but I don’t like bananas.
We stayed inside because it was cold.
This way, students practice speaking, grammar, and meaning all together.
