CLASSROOM LANGUAGE
(24 WORD TO PRACTICE)
About the Topic: Classroom Language
Classroom language refers to the common words, expressions, and phrases teachers and students use during lessons. It helps everyone understand instructions, communicate clearly, and create an active learning environment.
Typical classroom language includes phrases like “Open your book,” “Listen carefully,” “Work in pairs,” “Can you repeat that?” and “I don’t understand.” Knowing these expressions helps students participate confidently and follow lessons without confusion.
At an intermediate level, students also learn polite and academic ways to communicate — for example, asking questions, giving opinions, or making requests such as “Could you please explain that again?”, “In my opinion…”, or “May I go out for a moment?”
Understanding classroom language is essential in any learning environment because it builds communication skills, promotes respect, and helps students use English (and other languages) naturally in real situations.

Benefits of the BoomWords Game
The BoomWords Game makes learning classroom language interactive and memorable. The teacher says “Classroom Language!” and students take turns saying one classroom phrase — for example, “Stand up,” “Be quiet,” “Can you help me?” — until someone repeats a phrase or pauses too long. That student says “Boom!” and sits down.
The game helps students:
Review useful classroom expressions in a fun way.
Strengthen listening and memory skills.
Practice speaking naturally and confidently.
Learn through repetition and teamwork.
Teachers can make it even more effective by switching languages (e.g., English–Turkish or English–Spanish) or asking students to act out the expressions.
