NATIONALITIES
(52 WORD TO PRACTICE)

About the Topic: Nationalities

Every person in the world comes from a country, and the people from each country have a nationality. For example, people from Turkey are Turkish, people from Japan are Japanese, and people from Italy are Italian. Learning nationalities helps us talk about where people are from and learn about other cultures.

In English, we often use nationalities to answer the question “Where are you from?”
For example:

  • “I’m from Spain. I’m Spanish.”

  • “She’s from Brazil. She’s Brazilian.”
Nationalities usually start with a capital letter, and they are often used as adjectives before nouns — for example, “a French student” or “an English teacher.”

Learning this topic helps students talk about themselves, meet new friends, and describe people in English. It also teaches respect for different countries and cultures around the world.

Benefits of the BoomWords Game

The BoomWords Game helps students remember countries and nationalities in a fun way! The teacher says the topic “Nationalities,” and students take turns saying one nationality, like “Turkish,” “French,” or “Japanese.” If a student repeats a word or takes too long, they say “Boom!” and sit down.

This game helps students:

  • Practice pronunciation of nationality words.

  • Remember the link between country and nationality.

  • Speak quickly and confidently in English.

  • Learn about different cultures while having fun!

Teachers can also show flags or maps during the game and ask, “Where are they from?” or “What nationality are they?” to make the activity visual and engaging.
