NUMBERS
(30 WORD TO PRACTICE)

About the Topic: Numbers

Numbers are an important part of learning English. We use numbers every day — to count objects, tell the time, talk about prices, or say our age. Numbers help us describe “how many” or “how much” of something there is.

There are two main types of numbers:

  • Cardinal numbers (1, 2, 3, 4, 5…) tell us how many. For example, “I have three apples.”

  • Ordinal numbers (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th…) tell us the order. For example, “I live on the second floor.”

Learning numbers in English is very useful because we use them for shopping, phone numbers, dates, and daily life situations. When we practice numbers, we also learn pronunciation — like saying “thirteen” and “thirty,” which can sound similar but mean different things.

Counting from 1 to 100 and learning how to use numbers in sentences helps students understand and speak English more confidently.

  • One (1)

  • Two (2)

Learning Outcomes

After learning this topic, students will be able to:

  1. Recognize and pronounce numbers from 1 to 100.

  2. Use numbers correctly in sentences.

  3. Understand the difference between cardinal and ordinal numbers.

  4. Ask and answer questions using numbers (e.g., “How old are you?” “I am ten.”).

  5. Write and spell numbers in English.

Benefits of the BoomWords Game

The BoomWords Game is a fun way to practice numbers. The teacher starts by saying “one,” and each student continues counting — “two,” “three,” “four”… But when it’s a multiple of five, students must say “Boom!” instead of the number. For example: “one, two, three, four, BOOM, six, seven…”

This game helps students:

  • Learn numbers quickly through play and repetition.

  • Pay attention and listen carefully.

  • Practice pronunciation and rhythm in English.

  • Work together and think fast in a fun way.

Teachers can also make the game more challenging by using ordinal numbers or counting backwards.
